Steve Arnold signs for Dover Athletic from Forest Green
Many football pundits have questioned how the arrival of Steve Arnold to The Whites is likely to impact on the team for the next season’s competitions as well as the individual performance from the current team players. One player who will be directly affected by this transfer is Lee Hook as the fear is that he might lose his number one position to the new acquisition. Consequently, we should expect a lot of competition from the two players as each will be striving to gain the manager’s trust. Another new signing, Mitchell Pinnock is also expected to add great quality to the Dover Athletic midfield, and this is likely to boost the club’s strength by greater height. Steve Arnold, who is to celebrate his 27th birthday just next month, has is already gained praise from the club’s supporters, thanks to an impressive 45-minute clean sheet display in Dover’s pre-season friendly encounter against Leyton Orient.

With this new signing, Dover will now be better placed in its pursuit for a National League title, a victory which they are yet to land after many years of trying. Looking at the last season’s edition of the National League, one of the things that Dover was mostly missing out on was the ability for their forwards to score more goals. Also, a relatively weak defence and goalkeeping which saw the club welcoming in many goals yet sending very few making them sit 5th in the final table rankings. The club’s manager, Chris Kinnear has praised the former Forest Green Rovers goalkeeper for his vast experience and ability while in the goal post. Dover’s manager has hinted out at the possibility of bringing in new forwards and some defenders as well, in a bid to reinforce some areas which have caused The Whites to miss out on important gains in their respective competitions.

Steve Arnold in numbers – the Dover’s new acquisition made a total of 45 appearances for his old club Forest Green Rovers after a two-year stint. 16 of those appearances were clean sheets, and that is pretty impressive given that the National League is always a galore full of goal scoring opportunities. Arnold’s last appearance for the Forest Green Rovers was in the National League’s promotion final tie with Grimsby Town though things didn’t go on well for the Green Rovers as they lost the particular match 3 -1. Steve Arnold’s career path has been impressive as he has played for the likes of Stevenage, Norwich City and even Arsenal. Meanwhile, this signing is likely to take an interesting turn as Arnold’s former club, Forest Green first clash of the season will be against his current employers. The match will be available for live coverage on BT Sport, and perhaps it would be an opportunity for Steve Arnold to showcase his goalkeeping skills and prove that his transfer was indeed worthy. With the new season just around the corner, the belief is that the player will live up to the many praises received by providing some quality saves and clean sheets.
