Official Dover Athletic Football Club - Youth Teams - DAFC U16 5 - 1 Canterbury City U16
DAFC U16 5 - 1 Canterbury City U16 Paul Evison | Sun 22nd Jan 2012
The outstanding result of the season for the U16s at Dover Athletic at the weekend, beating their fiercest rivals by an incredible 5 goals to 1.
It was canterbury who struck inside the first 10 minutes with a well taken goal from the City striker rounding Miller and calmly poking into the bottom corner. But rather than capitulating the audacity of the visitors scoring seemed to galvanize the home team. They struck back with some fine neat passing and had two clear cut chances inside the box saved or pushed high and wide of the goal. But on 25min Ben Chapman met a Tom Bines' cross at the far post with a diving header that drew gasps of admiration from the crowd. At the half time break it was Dover's management that were the happier and it didn't take long to secure the lead. Dover's Captain, Kane Smith, playing only his second full game of the season, threaded a perfect pass through to dave Pilcher who lobbed the onrushing keeper from 28 yards. Canterbury tried to switch formation, leaving only three at the back whilst looking to get back into the game. But Dover held firm and the match was over when Toby Smith poached a tap in on 63mins. Ben Chapman scored his 2nd and Dover's fourth with 5 mins to go. Then there were one or two flying tackles made by the City boys, who were understandably trying to get something from the game, one of which resulted in yellow card that perhaps should have been red, But another fine strike, from the resulting free kick, this time by Tom Bines to make it five and sweet revenge for this ever improving team who now sit at the top of this division.
