Canterbury City U15s 3 - 2 DAFC U15s Paul Evison | Wed 14th Dec 2011
Dover travelled to last years League and Kent Cup champions Canterbury City with a win for either side would virtually secure the title. Canterbury really through the pressure on in the early stages creating chances via Joe Halford & George Mitchell but Dover managed to keep it goalless. However City did snatch the lead when a Scott Embery cross was wiped in and Athletic keeper Austin failed to connect properly and a half clearance found Halford and his volley crashed in to send City ahead. As usual going behind seemed to wake Athletic up and Reed and Priddle started to win the midfield which saw chances from James Rigby and Matt Bennett. This constant dominance gained Athletic several set pieces and it was a Dehara corner that found defender Okwudinka flying in and he stabbed home to level the scores. Athletic now with there tales up continued to create and it was a great individual run from Bennett which was stopped via a foul by City, this saw Jack Reed wipe a quality delivery in and City failed to deal with it and the shot flew in to send Athletic in front.
Second Half Athletic really didn't compete and within four minutes of the second half a mistake in midfield by Athletic saw Halford hit a hopeful long ball which dropped behind Athletic's back line and keeper Austin watched it fly in of the zippy surface to level the game up. Athletic really did uncharacteristically sit of City and let them impose thereselfs back in the game and a number of chances saw Captain and Man of the match Daniel Wells have to make fantastic last ditch tackles to keep it level. But Wells could not save Athletic from going behind and losing the game when Okwudinka got beat by Rene Armstrong and a mishit shot saw George Mitchell anticipating and he stretched out and sliced in off the post to secure the points.
