Athletic started the first game of the new season on a positive note, taking the lead when new signing Jack SAUNDERS went clean through and held his composure to lob the advancing keeper from distance. City equalised and then added a second to finish the first half 2-1 ahead.
In the second period City added a further three goals without reply to win 5-1.
