CENTRE SPOT - UPDATE No3
Author Steve Parmenter | Date 23 May 08

It's been a week or so since the last update and the site has been busy everyday, with little or no downtime (which is unusual on a building site ;-) ).

Going slightly off-topic:

I've been working on the refurbishment of the sponsors lounge and boardroom for the past few weeks - it's looking very good indeed.

However I won't be bringing you any photos - if you want to see it you'll need to take up one of the hospitality packages.

I understand that there is likely to be a VIP membership ticket, as well as one-off game tickets being introduced next season which are being aimed at the average fan, so no excuse not to come and have a look!!

Back to the Centre Spot.....

Building the retaining wall, which holds the concrete base. Once the concrete is set, the walls are built on the blocks.

The brown bricks are the external facing bricks, they are used in this area, instead on basic block, because they will be visible after the surrounding walkways are installed.

The walkway infront of the new Centre Spot is just over 2 metres wide.

The steel, which strengthens the base is installed on top of a membrane, which stops the damp getting in. You can also see part of the steel frame have been erected.

The concrete arrived on Thursday. Over the course of the day 13 lorry loads are delivered and pumped in to place using a special pumping lorry.

And today, Friday, it is solid. The block work starts on Tuesday, so by the end of next week, we should have walls!!

Check back next week for more.

NOTE: Crabble will be closed in most areas during the building work. Please DO NOT try to gain access to any restricted area, building sites are very dangerous places!
